This morning I woke up with the idea of starting a journal on this blog for family that might be intrested in some of my life memories that seem to provide a thread from past to present. So this is the first attempt at remembering as far back as I can.... December 31, 1946 about 4:30 PM in the Upper Turkey Foot Township of Somerset Pennsylvania, a new person entered the world as Calvin Ray Pletcher. The event occurred in a bedroom above my grandfather's general store where my Mom and Dad had taken up housekeeping. My first bath was in a porcelain bowl by Mom's sister, Aunt Luella. The general store was one of two in the little town of Sculton, PA. These two stores were across the main road from each other. My grandfather's store also sold Atlantic gasoline and was a right turn off the road for those traveling to Connellsville or Indian Head. The store across the road was a right turn off the road for those traveling to Somerset or Rockwood. My Mom was Malinda Gale Lohr Pletcher who did most of the work to make my arrival a success. My Dad was Glenn Elmer Pletcher, middle name after his Dad and my older brother by 14 months was Robert Wayne Pletcher. Both my brother and I were called by our middle names all the way through high school. I am not sure why this was the case, sure was easier to say Ray than Cal-vin or Wayne than Rob-bert? Although efficient language was not a family trait.
